Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup (250 mL)

    All-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp (7 mL)

    PC®Black Label Chinese 5-spice Blend
  • 1-1/4 tsp (6 mL)

    Baking powder
  • 1 cup (250 mL)

    PC Ginger Ale
  • 3 tbsp (45 mL)

PC®Black Label Normandy Style Unsalted Cultured Butter
  • 4

    Firm ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL)

PC®Black Label Sesame Caramel Dessert Sauce

How to make

  • Step 1

Pour enough oil in large deep skillet or small saucepan to come 1 inch (2.5 cm) up side. Heat on medium heat until deep-fryer thermometer reads 350°F (180°C).

  • Step 2

Meanwhile, whisk together flour, 5-spice blend, baking powder and salt in large bowl. Stir in 1/2 cup ginger ale and butter until paste forms. Slowly whisk in remaining 1/2 cup ginger ale until thick batter forms.

  • Step 3

Peel bananas; break each into 5 equal pieces with your hands to make 20 pieces total. Working in small batches and letting oil return to 350°F (180°C) between each batch, dip bananas into batter; gently lower into hot oil using tongs or slotted spoon and fry, turning occasionally, until crispy and golden all over, about 2 minutes. Transfer to paper towel-lined plate to drain.

  • Step 4

Heat dessert sauce according to package directions. Serve with banana fritters.
