How to make

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp (25 mL)Unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp (25 mL) All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) Stout
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) Dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL)Each salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 pkg (125 g)PC®Shredded Aged One Year Canadian Cheddar Cheese
  • 4 slicesPC®à L’Européenne Light Rye Loaf

How to make

  • Step 1Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Step 2Melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat; add flour and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour in stout gradually, stirring constantly; cook for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring, or until mixture is thick and smooth. Stir in mustard, salt and pepper. Gradually add cheese, stirring until melted. Remove from heat.
  • Step 3Place bread on baking sheet. Toast in top third of oven for 5 minutes; turn and toast for 3 to 5 minutes or until lightly bowned. Remove from oven. Spread cheese mixture over toasts, dividing evenly. Return to oven. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes or until bubbly and lightly browned.
